Dixie Chicks call a Spade a Spade

The Dixie Chicks were given a raw deal for calling a spade a spade, but I can't say that I was surprised. Their fan base are glorified Freepers and Rexall Rangers who grew up idolizing George W. "The Texacutioner" Bush. The same sort of depravity shown by Bush mocking a woman on death row while calling himself ethical had seeped into the Dixie Chick fan base.

When the Chicks announced their shame for Bush, it's no wonder they were mocked and sent death threats. I'm also not surprised that they are still alive - none of their detractors have followed through on the death threats. Bullies are usually little more than hot air.

I am surprised that the Dixie Chicks thought that Country Music fans in general, and Texas Country Music fans in particular would support them. Sorry ladies, Rexall Rangers want to see themselves as tough "Rebel Cowboys," but scratch the surface and you see it's just a veneer.

Bullies are also petty. Lots of bullies have blacklisted the Dixie Chicks. The portion of their fan base that isn't insane have begged for their music to be played with little success inside American borders. The Chicks have resorted to playing in Canada, and being heard on Pop stations instead of Country stations. Forget about Texas - Houston couldn't even sell tickets because radio stations refused to advertise for them.

I grew up in Texas - spent 10 years in Midland and 12 in Houston. This response is typical of the vocal Texans. There's little "Good" in "Good Ol' Boy".

The Dixie Chicks have responded in song and with a documentary that recently opened in New York and in Los Angeles. NBC refused to advertise the film. I don't care - I'm going to see this documentary, I'll own the DVD. And since the Dixie Chicks have started carrying a more 'rock' beat in their music, I've ordered their last two CDs. I like what I hear.

"Not Ready To Make Nice"
Album: Taking The Long Way

Forgive, sounds good.
Forget, I'm not sure I could.
They say time heals everything,
But I'm still waiting

I'm through, with doubt,
There's nothing left for me to figure out,
I've paid a price, and i'll keep paying

I'm not ready to make nice,
I'm not ready to back down,
I'm still mad as hell
And I don't have time
To go round and round and round
It's too late to make it right
I probably wouldn't if I could
Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is
You think I should

I know you said
Why can't you just get over it,
It turned my whole world around
and i kind of like it

I made by bed, and I sleep like a baby,
With no regrets and I don't mind saying,
It's a sad sad story
That a mother will teach her daughter
that she ought to hate a perfect stranger.
And how in the world
Can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they'd write me a letter
Saying that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over

I'm not ready to make nice,
I'm not ready to back down,
I'm still mad as hell
And I don't have time
To go round and round and round
It's too late to make it right
I probably wouldn't if I could
Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is
You think I should

I'm not ready to make nice,
I'm not ready to back down,
I'm still mad as hell
And I don't have time
To go round and round and round
It's too late to make it right
I probably wouldn't if I could
Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is
You think I should

Forgive, sounds good.
Forget, I'm not sure I could.
They say time heals everything,
But I'm still waiting
