Where did Comfort get these questions?Calladushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17620879847877868166noreply@blogger.comBlogger4125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5736821.post-33193684498715528292008-09-23T05:58:00.000-07:002008-09-23T05:58:00.000-07:00I guess from my perspective, Ray Comfort reflects ...I guess from my perspective, Ray Comfort reflects a small demographic group out here. While Calvary Chapels are becoming more prevalent, it isn't a household denomination.

I haven't seen enough of his work to refute anything and I don't see most Christians giving the time of day to it either. Refuting is something usually saved for heretics and atheists (sorry, had to throw that one in ;)

No matter what path a new Christian takes, at least he's a Christian - right? Yeah, I suppose you've got me on that one, to a point. Yet, John Wesley did an entire sermon and theme of the "Almost Christian." The idea being you're walking around with all the trappings but look at the heart. Do you really love God? Really? Then let me ask, do you love your neighbor and how about your enemy? Really? So, are you going out of your way to do anything about that?

That is one reason why I call the United Methodist Church home. I'm thankful that we put Scripture as our primary rule of faith but we hold to the tension of informing that faith through tradition, reason and experience. I've never been asked to sacrifice my brain in the faith journey and I hope I never ask anyone else to do so either.

Am I living that out? I guess you'd be a better judge of that.Ken Hagler, Your Alaskan Realtorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12356950549649622483noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5736821.post-44171001221447003112008-09-22T21:44:00.000-07:002008-09-22T21:44:00.000-07:00Besides, it isn't as if the Christian community is...Besides, it isn't as if the Christian community is refuting Ray Comfort. In fact, there is a local group in Fresno that uses Comfort's teachings for street evangelism on weekends at Fulton Mall.

I think of Comfort as having a "sound byte" or "bumper sticker" ministry. He says and teaches things that are quick, easy to remember, seemingly knock-down blows. They are easily refuted, so most Atheists don't bother.

I figure that by doing this, it won't let his fans get away easy by thinking they stand unopposed.Calladushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17620879847877868166noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5736821.post-78139632867193168022008-09-22T19:31:00.000-07:002008-09-22T19:31:00.000-07:00I have just glanced through these articles and com...I have just glanced through these articles and comments. I guess I have hard time taking seriously any theological or philosophical discussion coming with Kirk Cameron's name attached to it. I also take issue with any book that claims to know exactly what "Biblical Evangelism" looked like or should look like.

Just so you know, I've not met any Christian to date who has said to me, "Pastor! You've got to read Ray Comfort's book." I hope that might bring you some comfort...even if just a little bit.Ken Hagler, Your Alaskan Realtorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12356950549649622483noreply@blogger.com
